Goorin Brothers is a small chain. They’ve been in business for over a hundred years, but only in Brooklyn since hipsters needed hats. Let me amend that – when guys began buying hats in stores like this, other people were already putting big, fat quotation marks around the word “hipster.” Go looking for your own style; if you don’t have one, then boldly come back to this shop.

Sometimes on a summer day, you need an air conditioned refuge with snacks and cold drinks. Union Hall is large enough to accommodate private parties, bands, two bocce courts, a library, couches, large crowds… everything but strollers. On Saturday everyone was having cool fun except for the couple who tried to come in wheeling a pair of babies. “Sorry,” said the bartender, “we have a policy… no strollers allowed.” (This is Park Slope, so tots in bars are okay.)

The idea of having a fixit project in the form of a boat in Brooklyn is very appealing, except for one thing. Should your craft ever take on water (and it might, given its state), you may wish to drop anchor somewhere other than up the Gowanus Canal, which awaits Super Fund designation.
