The Friday snowstorm: last of the season? It didn’t add up to much and looked nice coming down. I think I’m having (prematurely) nostalgia for the winter and the snow that didn’t fall.

I didn’t think I had Olympic fever. I’m not watching much TV coverage, and the sound is usually off because I can’t stand the yammering of the announcers, and yet, when I took this picture, what did I think of, but men’s gymnastics, the pommel horse! (Krisztián Berki of Humgary was the gold medal winner.)

Heading into Fourth Avenue from Carroll Street, I was standing at the door of the F Train taking pictures, killing time because I didn’t have a seat. Trackwork goes on, and Smith & Ninth is still closed. The light was nice, though. The reflection of the interior subway light looks like a contrail.

I never noticed the graffiti on this building before. The landlord is taking the approach that it should be painted over ASAP. Some would say this makes a mess is bigger than ever, and some graffiti-ists would say thanks for creating a clean (or sort of clean) palette to work on.

The houses replacing Vincent Russo’s eccentric realty and notary business on Smith Street, across from Budget, are almost finished. It’s clearly not the best place to own property: there’s the polluted Gowanus Canal nearby and the extensive work happening on the Smith & Ninth Street subway stop.

Around 2:00 in the afternoon. The snow had started and the local blighted zone, the Gowanus Canal, was looking slightly photogenic, if you ask me.
